Biography

Scott Chovanec is President of Scott Chovanec & Associates, Inc., an innovative consulting practice providing strategic solutions, thought leadership and decision support for health care markets as well as the medical wellness, fitness & club industry. Scott has been the regional director for MediFit Corporate Services, Inc., offering consulting, account management and new business development for the award-winning company. He served 16 years as corporate director for Advocate Fitness, a division of Advocate Health Care, where he established the business model and developed, as well as managed, a large network of corporate fitness facilities and integrated hospital-based wellness centers. While in this capacity, he also served as the administrator for The Power Program, Advocate’s experiential learning, team building and adventure travel product line. Scott’s career began as a high school physical education & health educator and head swimming coach. In all, Scott has over 45 years’ experience in both educational and administrative aspects of fitness and health promotion. Earning Bachelors and Masters of Science,(MS) from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Scott also has a MS in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA- Finance) from Lake Forest Graduate School of Business Management and a MA in Education Administration from Northeastern Illinois University. Over the years, Scott has become a requested lecturer in health fitness, management and leadership disciplines, delivering over 1,000 motivating seminars and keynote presentations to businesses and international conferences. Active in many professional and civic organizations, Scott has authored numerous articles, book chapters and scholarly research. Scott currently serves as Advisor and Faculty Member for the Medical Wellness Association and has served as Vice President – Finance for the International Association for Worksite Health Promotion where he earned the prestigious Fellow status (FAWHP). With several American College of Sports Medicine certifications, Scott is also a CPR and WSI Instructor and holds an advanced swimming pool certification from NSPI. He is a selected member of several business organization registries, being recognized for his professional, academic and civic leadership and achievements. Residing in Highland Park, Illinois, Scott was a two-term elected commissioner for the Park District of Highland Park. As commissioner, he was instrumental in developing a solid sport feeder program for the local high school and had designed new sports, fitness and recreational facilities for the community. He is currently serving on one of the fund-raising boards for Advocate Lutheran General Hospital (Park Ridge, IL). An active marathoner and triathlete, Scott was Midwest Triathlon Champion and has attained a Top Ten national ranking in long-course triathlons. Recently, Scott was named Illinois “Administrator of the Year” by the Association of Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance. He was selected as “Top Presenter” by Athletic Business Conference for 2015 and honored as a Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce “Community Star” award recipient.
