George J. Pfeiffer, founder and president of the WorkCare Group, Inc. (WCG), Charlottesville, VA, draws from more than four decades of experience in worksite health promotion and provides consulting and program design services for corporations and not-for-profit organizations. From 1974 to 1984, Mr. Pfeiffer was manager of the award-winning health management program at Xerox Corporation. In 1984, Mr. Pfeiffer became vice president and co-founder of The Travelers Center for Corporate Health Promotion, where he managed product development and strategic planning. Before founding WCG in 1991, Mr. Pfeiffer was President of Kelly Communications, Inc., Charlottesville, VA, the largest publisher of employee health communications. A recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Pfeiffer was named one of 10 Healthy American Fitness Leaders in 1984 by the U.S. Jaycees and the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for his contributions in worksite health promotion. In 1994, he was recipient of the Distinguished Leadership and Service Award by the Association for Worksite Health Promotion. In 2005, Pfeiffer was recognized by the National Wellness Association for his lifetime contributions to worksite wellness. He was also recognized as the first Diplomat of the Medical Wellness Association in 2007. He is currently Immediate Past-President of the International Association for Worksite Health Promotion (IAWHP) an affiliate organization of the American College of Sports Medicine. He has been quoted in such national publications as the New York Times, the Washington Post, USA Today, and Business Week. During his career he has served as a consultant to such organizations as UAW-GM, Applied Materials, PSE&G, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Union Pacific Railroad, GlaxoSmithkline, Mobil Corporation, National Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association, the University of Michigan, the National YMCA, Xerox, The Travelers, IBM, General Electric, Honeywell, the Partnership for Prevention, and US Healthiest.
